Paper Plane Tosser

Paper Plane Tosser is a single player game where you most throw a paper plane as far as possible.

Paper Plane Tosser, was created for the University of Canberra 24Hr challenge of 2023. I was given a prompt of "out of control." 

To me, throwing a paper plane is one of the most unpredictable things you can do and as soon as the plane leaves your fingertips it is completely out of your control. 

To add further randomness, I added to the scene certain points where the wind can blow the plane to either aid your goal of a further distance or hinder it. 

The first thing I started to develop was the main mechanic of the paper plane throw. I got through this relatively easy as I have completed a controller script like this before. I then added the distance UI. This particular mechanic is what took the longest time as I have no idea how to achieve this, so I watch many YouTube videos to get UI looking and feeling really responsive to the players throw. 

After getting the mechanics down I then started to think about what level scene I wanted, but mostly what I could finish within the time restraints.

Creating the entire city definitely took the longest time of anything within development as I had to place all assets within the scene to achieve a good flight path for the plane. 

Because I have the distance meter being the player main goal within the game. I needed to add obstacles that could hinder the player from achieving a great distance. I added the trump blimp because if anything is "out of control" its defiantly him. I added custom animations for all level obstacles that are timed to make the player think about what direction and timing of their throw.

Overall, I’m happy I completed the task but, with more time I know I could make this prototype much better.
